VIDEO: Local Teachers Learn New Technology

EMCC MAYHEW CAMPUS (WCBI News) – Teachers from Armstrong Middle, New Hope Middle, and Ackerman Elementary meet at EMCC for the start of a program called “CSI Mississippi 2.0.”

This is a partnership between EMCC and Mississippi State, designed to show area teachers the procedure of 3-D printing and the manufacturing businesses that use the technology.

It’s part of the ITEST grant, which is supported by the national science foundation.

It focuses on teaching about the expanding industries using this technology and the workforce required to fill these slots.

“The goal of the grant is to increase the pipeline into technology industries and to let students know that they don’t have to only be an engineer or a computer scientist, but there are technologies out there that they can go and become a part of. So this is designed to expose them to career fields,” said ITEST Principal Investigator, Dana Franz.

Instructors also say many area schools do not have 3D printers available.

However, teachers will be shown how to incorporate these lessons into their math and science curriculum.
