COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after jurors reached a verdict in a Columbus murder trial.

After less than an hour of deliberation Friday morning, the jury found Randall Cooper Jr. guilty of murder in the first degree.

Cooper was involved in the shooting death of Virgil Harris on Columbus’northside back in December 2013.

He was sentenced to life in prison.

Cooper was so frustrated after the verdict was announced that Judge Lee Howard had the bailiffs take him from the courtroom.

He was apparently upset that jurors were receiving their checks, so he yelled out in court.

During the trial, Cooper claimed he shot Harris in self defense.

Haris’ family was at the trial and told WCBI that they are pleased with the outcome and that they still miss their brother everyday.
