MANTACHIE, Miss. (WCBI) — Mantanchie runners braved the damp weather to jog for brain injury awareness.

The Pilot Club of Mantanchie sponsored Saturday morning’s 5K run/walk to raise money for the organization’s brain saving efforts.

The money will be used to fund the purchase of nearly 100 bicycle helmets, which will be given to all Mantachie second grade students to help keep their little craniums safe while at play.

Pilot club members say according to the Center for Disease Control, tens of thousands of children in the U.S. suffer traumatic brain injuries every year, many which prove fatal.

In many cases, proper precaution could have prevented the injury in the first place.

The Pilot Club also focuses on educating people on brain related diseases like Alzheimer’s.
