LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)–Local educators are being trained to help children of military families make successful transitions when they have to move.

The Military Child Education Coalition is hosting a two-day seminar at East Mississippi Community College.

Administrators, teachers, and counselors are learning about the unique challenges military families face, particularly when changing schools.

Seminar leaders say it can be especially tough on families with gifted and special needs students.

So there are some special challenges and the military said we understand that. So we want to give some extra support to those kids in this regard to see what we can do to soften the blow.

Continuing education credits are available and the seminar is being provided free of charge.
