STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Young and old enjoyed the Stations of the Cross, but they may be a rare site across the country as more Millennials are saying no to church.

“Some people are like I don’t want to bring Children into this world. Cause you know there’s so many problems, and they’re going to have all these hardships,” Jeff Artigues.

That may be one reason less Americans are going to church but Jeff Artigues says that’s why they raise their kids with religion.

“We need more good children to go out there and change the world.”

His family came to Stations of the Cross so they can be more active in their faith.

“Teachers of our faith to our kids and you can do that through books and things like that but they have to see it and live it,” says Artigues.

Turning church into an activity helps to bring in all ages.

“You get to engage the faith here. You get to act it out and be a part, you’re doing something,” says Giles Lindley with First Methodist Church.

Less millennials may be going to organized religion but that didn’t stop many from getting involved in the ceremony.

“A life changing experience to see in every situation that Christ is there,” says MSU Junior Caleb Hammill.

He says he thinks his peers may not be followers because many focus on more materialistic things.

“Get it from all around, worldly things that seem to fulfill them ,but for me when I look at Christ, when I come to Christ, I realize everything else in this world can fade away,” says Hammill.

Dustin Homan says growing up he got stuck in a routine that made him feel disconnected to God until he understood the true meaning.

“Personally religion has done nothing for me. Jesus has.”

Even though what religion traditionally looks like may be changing, He believe his generation is still strong in their faith.

“People from my generation, they actually are rising up and becoming true followers of Christ,” says Homan.

He says true followers have Jesus in their heart, no matter how they build their relationship with him, it’s the acceptance that’s important.
