VIDEO: Missing Woman Found Safe

VERNON, Ala. (WCBI)- Less than 24 hours after being declared missing by family, a Vernon woman is safe tonight.

Family members tell WCBI, 63 year-old Mavis Lee Watts has been found safe after being reported missing early yesterday evening.

It turns out, it was simply a lack of cell phone service in the Tennessee mountains that are to blame for the mishap.

Watts had last been seen on Tuesday, boarding a Greyhound bus headed for Tennessee to visit a friend.

She’d last been heard from on Wednesday during a layover in Georgia.

Although everything turned out fine, Watts’ daughter, Shannon Lugo, wants the community to know she’s grateful for all the support the family has received.

Unaware that she’d been reported missing, Watts began to contact her family as soon as her service returned on her way back to Vernon.

She’s said to arrive back home on Monday.
