COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Making great public schools for every child. That’s the goal of the Mississippi Association of Educators. The organization’s president is touring the state promoting MAE’S reading contest, the “Be a Champion Egg Bowl” contest.

But MAE president Joyce Helmick is also using her visits to encourage voters to support Initiative 42 when they go to the polls in November.

She says the measure presses lawmakers to fully fund education.

“Our educators, our parents, and our community believe that Initiative 42 is the only way to ensure our students receive the resources and the tools and the support they need to succeed.”

Voters will cast ballots for the measure in November 3rd’s general election.
