VIDEO: Mississippi State Prepares to Reflect WWI Centennial
MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI) – 2017 is the bicentennial of Mississippi, but it’s also the centennial for another important event in our state and nation’s history, the entry into world war one.
Mississippi State’s Mitchell Memorial Library plans 3 events to recognize the history of the Great War as part of a grant from Library of America and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
The first event is tomorrow at 7 p.m. and focuses on letters written by Mississippi Veterans of the war.
“The WWI collection is very particularly interesting in that these are soldiers’ letters, and so they’re very personal, very heartfelt. Hearing some of our current veterans read those is going to be an extraordinary experience,” said Coordinator for Cultural Heritage Projects, Sarah McCullough.
