VIDEO: MSU Athletes Give Back To Their Community

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi State Athletes are taking a time out from the field to give back to their community.

Thirty to forty athletes took time out of their day to help collect donations for United We Feed.

The organization collects food for local food banks.

Athletes and United Way Board of Directors set up at Kroger and Vowell’s Market Place in Starkville.

They were handing out slips of paper with items customers could buy and donate to hungry families in the area.

“It’s so heart-warming to see the generosity of the people in our community and what’s been so much fun today, is working with all of the student athletes from Mississippi State, and it’s good to know that they give back to their adopted communities that they’re living in,” says United Way Board of Directors, Bobbie Higgins.

“It’s volunteer, but I was like me being here can help other families have food for their holidays so I feel like my time here is really worth it because it’s important for them,” says MSU athlete, Anastasia Rentouli.

MSU Athletes from the golf team, softball, tennis, track and field, as well the soccer team came out to volunteer.

The donated food feeds families in Oktibbeha County.

Last year, the group collected eight tons of food.
