Columbus, MS (WCBI) – One of the busiest places on the state’s most historic college campus is coming into the modern age.

From top to bottom, Fant Memorial Library at MUW is undergoing a total make over as part of a three-year, three-phase plan. The Legislature is considering bond funding for a final phase. The library is getting everything from a new façade to new electrical systems and new computer stations and study spaces.

MUW Vice President, Nora Miller, expects the next phase of construction to begin soon.

“We are closing up on phase  1 of the library. This project began in 2012. We should be finished with the construction this month. Once we finish with phase 1, we will roll right into phase 2 and phase 2 will renovate the existing facility in place while the library is functioning and this will be $5.4 million.”

The work includes a new state-of-the-art retrieval system and space for the library’s extensive historical collections.
