VIDEO: The Nation Celebrates Both Its Flag and Its Army

(WCBI News)- On this day in the year 1775, men were training to fight for our freedom in The Revolutionary War.

Today, the U.S. Army is celebrating it’s two hundred and forty-second birthday.

Two years later, in 1777, on this same day, the Betsy Ross flag was adopted as the official flag of the United States.

These two have added many numbers over the years in both stars and also men and women in the ranks.

Veterans express their love for the flag and the organization that they served in.

“I was a volunteer back in the early 70’s and stayed almost eighteen years. I’m very proud to be a member of the organization of the Army and the VFW. All these folks wanting to come into the United States. That’s because of the ones who gave up their lives, so we fly that flag,” said Commander of VFW Post 4272, Dennis Jewell.

Celebrations and ceremonies for both of these occasions were held in many areas across the country.
