TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Soldiers from the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team are supporting agencies in Tupelo, following Monday’s severe weather. 50 of the Guardsmen are helping with traffic control, clean-up, and foot patrols.

Governor Phil Bryant activated the soldiers after Monday’s tornado. They have also made an appearance in Louisville, helping police and fire officials. Ground Force Commander Colonel Rogers Johnson says everyone has established a tight knit network:

“And it’s been a joint venture, a partnership that has helped develop relationships by conducting traffic control points, presence patrols, there’s a new appreciation for what National Guard, 155, the aviation can bring in time of need and disaster.”

Johnson says soldiers prepared days in advance of the tornado, and patrols could continue through Thursday.
