TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – There will soon be another option for air travelers in the Northeast Mississippi area.
Tennessee based Contour Airlines will start service to Nashville next month out of the Tupelo Regional Airport. Contour Airlines CEO Matt Chaifetz says his company has a simple strategy to get passengers on board the 9 seat Jetstream 31, named Tupelo.

“We are looking forward to bringing the community low fares and reliable service,” Chaifetz said.

Flights to Nashville start April Fifth, with an introductory fare of $18.99 one way, through April 30th.

Late last year, Corporate Flight Management, the parent company of Contour Airlines, was selected by the government to provide service to Tupelo under the Essential Air Service Program.

Chaifetz understands there are some obstacles to overcome when you talk about air service out of this airport, because of the record of the last two carriers. But to gain the public trust, Contour has hired pilots just for
the Tupelo route and they will also have a spare plane parked here, in case it is needed.

“We know the best advertising is going to be word of mouth, so I encourage you to come out, try the service, talk about it with your friends, we know you’re going to have a great experience,” Chaifetz said.

Local musician Tatum Shappley provided entertainment for Contour’s public unveiling. He spends a lot of time in Nashville and says it will be nice to have another choice when traveling to Music City.

“It’s definitely a long drive, right at three and a half, four hours, up to Nashville to where I usually have to go, driving less than an hour here to Tupelo to get on a plane to fly, for under an hour, to Nashville would be a great option for me,” Shappley said.

After April 30th, tickets will cost about $50 each way on Contour Airlines.  Contour will offer 30 flights a week. For more information, go to www.contourairlines.com
