NEW ALBANY, MISS. (WCBI) – Local economic development officials say they expect more businesses and industries to consider the area now that the country’s newest interstate is in the area.

The interstate designation could be one factor that drew the attention of the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain.

Although there has been no official word from the restaurant’s corporate headquarters, sources tell us that Cracker Barrel recently purchased this tract of land, next to the Hampton Inn, in New Albany.

“Especially the city of New Albany,it’s really opened a lot of eyes, to investors, people looking, possibly a Cracker Barrel here in a year out, it’s just , really helpful for our city,” said New Albany Mayor Tim Kent.

As Mayor Kent said, it will be at least a year before construction is underway on the Cracker Barrel New Albany location. He expects other well known businesses to look at the area.
