VIDEO: New Aldermen in Starkville
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Two new faces are joining the Starkville Board of Aldermen.
Patrick Miller is the new Ward 5 Alderman.
The seat was left vacant by the new Greater Starkville Development Partnership President, Scott Maynard.
Sandra Sistrunk is back in city politics.
She was sworn in as the Ward 2 Alderman; she has previously served on the board.
The Aldermen were sworn-in during a ceremony Monday morning.
Miller and Sistrunk are excited to see what they can do to help make Starkville better.
“It’s great. I’m very fortunate. I know I’m one of the rare newcomers to the board. We’ve got a lot of incumbents. I’m just looking forward to working with them and learning from what they’ve done in the past term and seeing what we can do to improve on what they’ve done,” said Miller.
“I think it’s going to be an easy transition for us. I do know the members of the board, some I’ve worked with before, some I’ve gotten to know these last four years coming to the board meetings each time they’ve met. I think it’s going to be an easy transition,” said Sistrunk.
The swearing in was followed by a speech from long-time Alderman, Roy Perkins.
He spoke of how he has seen Starkville grow over his terms and how they city has more potential.
