TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi based ministry is helping bring relief to an orphanage in Nepal as the death toll rises from an earthquake last month.

This afternoon, staff members and supporters of “New Beginnings” Adoption Services met at the organization’s Tupelo headquarters to map out a strategy for long term relief.

New Beginnings operates an orphanage near Katmandau and although the orphanage wasn’t damaged by the earthquake, it has been tough to get basic supplies to the orphanage and its employees.

New Beginnings has set up a “Nepal Relief Fund” to help get essential supplies such as vitamins, clothes and other items to the orphanage.

Also, local retailer “Southern Cloth” will have special shirts made to sell for Nepal relief efforts.

“The supplies are very limited that are getting in there, they are having trouble getting the larger planes in there, the Nepali people and government officials are now becoming more concerned with having disease spreading over there,” said Tom Veile, of New Beginnings.
