Video: A New Day for One Local School Board

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) –The Aberdeen School District begins a new era.

Monday night the Aberdeen School Board held its first official meeting since the district returned to local control.

The District was taken over by the state in the Spring of 2012. The current school board was elected last year, but has been serving as an advisory panel.

It was also the first meeting for Jeff Clay, the newly hired superintendent.

There has been some community backlash against his hiring, but during tonight’s public comment, an area resident voiced support for the new leadership.

“Our goals are to be the best school system in the state. How quickly we get there….only time will tell but that’s our goal. We’re going to be the best school system in the state.”

School starts back August 3rd.
