Video: Northeast Mississippi DJ, Disabled Marine Vet To Camp Out In Mall For Fundraiser

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI)  – A popular event that raises money to help disabled military veterans will kick off later this month.

Tupelo DJ Scott Burns will spend a week camped out inside the Mall at Barnes Crossing, as part of “7 Days for the Troops.”

Burns, who suffered a service related injury during his time in the Marines, will collect donations during his week long stay inside the mall’s food court.

The money will be given to “Purple Heart Homes,” which helps remodel homes for veterans who are returning home with service related injuries.

After last year’s event, Burns said he was stopping the annual fundraiser, but pleas from the public helped him change his mind.

“I think the best part about the fundraiser is getting to meet parents and family members of people who lost their lives in acts of service and just to get to meet them and to talk to them and to put a face to what we’re doing, that’s really special,” said Hannah Burns, daughter of Scott Burns.

“We have a goal of $14,000 and that will help renovate a bathroom for a disabled veteran and we just want to encourage, people, whether you give 50 cents or $5,000, it all adds up, all goes to a great cause,” Scott Burns said.

The 11th “7 Days for the Troops” begins June 25th at 2 in the afternoon.  Burns will also have many items for raffle, such as bikes,  furniture and guns.
