Video: Noxubee County Prepares For A Battle At Yazoo City

MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – The Noxubee County Tigers have rolled into the post season on four straight wins, and after beating Amory in the first round of the playoffs, they aim to keep their winning ways going. The Tigers clinched the division for a sixth straight season in Region 4-4a.

“It feels pretty good to keep the division in our hands,” said quarterback Armoni Clark. “And just taking over our division in 4a.

“Our goals was to win the division,” adds head coach Tyrone Shorter. “And we knew it was going to be a tough division with New Hope moving in it. We did that. We got one goal, and we plan on going to the north state championship, and going to the state championship.”

After clinching the division, the Tigers were able to host the first round of the playoffs last week, and the team believes the win over Amory gave them the confidence they needed.

“I had to say it was just a little adversity in the first quarter,” said junior wide receiver Kyziah Pruitt. “They came out strong, but we just had to answer to them. it just made us better.”

“It was a big win for us,” Shorter adds. “I’m just glad that it was important to win our division to play those guys at home, but it was a tough win, and it was a great win for our program.”

Noxubee will now travel to Yazoo City this Friday. The Tigers have a challenge ahead of them to advance into the post season.

“Their quarterback is an athlete,” said senior running back L.C. Clemons. “They got a good bit of receivers. They are good at running the ball and the rest of the team.”

“We got to go in at their place,” Pruitt said. “It’s all about the approach like Coach Shorter says. We just got to go in their place and take it to them fast and start off strong.”

“Yazoo City is a great football team,” Shorter adds. “They got great talent. They got a lot of speed. It kind of reminds me of us a little because they got a lot of speed, so we just got to go in and have a good game plan and keep our guys focused.”

Noxubee and Yazoo City will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday.
