Oktibbeha County, Miss. (WCBI) –  State and Oktibbeha County fire investigators spent all day Wednesday scouring two fire scenes for clues and evidence.

The fires on Blair and Fox roads in the Blackjack community are the latest among five in recent weeks at vacant houses that firefighters have labeled suspicious. Sheriff Steve Gladney says Investigator Rick Sharp and the state are ramping up their probe since Tuesday’s fires came within 24-hours of each other.

The first four fires were at night but Tuesday’s Fox Road fire came during the day. That has investigators worried that if a serial arsonist is at work, he may be escalating.

Residents who see anyone suspicious are asked to call the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department.
