FULTON, MISS. (WCBI) – The auditorium at the Old Fulton Grammar School is been transformed into the Austrian Alps.

For several months the Itawamba Indian Players have spent long hours making sets, scenery and rehearsing for their annual production. This year, it is “The Sound of Music.”

The story of the Von Trapp family is brought to the stage, with two sets of cast members.

“We feel it is our job as part of the school system to give as many students a chance as possible, so by double casting, we could put 14 students on stage, as the Von Trapp children, instead of seven,” said IAHS Drama Teacher Victoria Blake.

The cast ranges in age from kindergarten to 80 year old Alan Naylor, who plays Franz the Butler.

The audience will see the Von Trapp family house and hear familiar songs.

“It’s got a lot of historical background and to deal with World War II, I enjoy that part of history,” said Andrew Stanton, who plays Capt. Von Trapp.

“It’s going to be a really amazing show, even watching from the wings, we’ve had stage crew members, tear up at some parts , you get chills, it’s an amazing thing to watch,” said Lauren Edwards, one of the stage managers.

“It’s a production for all ages, older folks will enjoy it for the World War II aspect and younger kids will love the romance, kids singing and running around singing and having fun,” said Valerie Blake, who plays Maria.

“And who doesn’t like a musical.,” said Katie Stanley, who also plays Maria.

Proceeds from the eight performances benefit the Indian Players for scholarships, restoration of the old grammar school and future productions.
