PLANTERSVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — It was muddy, but that didn’t stop about 100 volunteers from erecting a special playground in Plantersville.

They gathered at Grant Wuichet Park early Saturday morning to begin construction of a Kaboom playground, which is specially designed to make sure that children get the active balance of play they need to become healthy and successful adults.

Katrina Hill is the project manager.

“Plantersville is a community that just believes in the power of play and they know how important it is for children to be active and outside and healthy,” Hill said. “And to that end they entered this contest with Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, the Let’s Play Mississippi Mayors Challenge. The adults here pledged to be more active and because so many of them pledged and came out and supported that cause, they got this playground. It was a competition they won.”

Hill says Plantersville beat out more than 40 communities including bigger cities like Jackson because it had the highest percent of residents pledging to be active.
