VIDEO: Possum Town Triatholon

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- More than 200 athletes from northeast Mississippi and beyond strapped on their running shoes this morning for an ultimate test of strength and endurance.

It was the sixth annual Possum Town Triathlon, which wrapped up at the Lock and Dam.

Top competitors received recognition for their ability to swim 600 yards, bike 17 miles, and run 3-point-3 miles.

Race Director, Brad Atkins, says even though this was a grueling event, it was suited for beginners.

Atkins says all the proceeds go back to the race to pay for equipment and other items.

The event’s primary sponsor was the Columbus Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau.
