Video: Prentiss County Correcting Jail Overcrowding Issues

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Prentiss County has outgrown it’s jail but it has corrected it’s overcrowding issue.

This past May the jail was found to be in non-compliance for having too many inmates.

After the federal court order was issued Sheriff Randy Tolar moved 20 inmates to Tishomingo County.

The Prentiss jail, which was built in 1996, can only hold 70 inmates.

By correcting the issue, the county will be able to keep its Joint State-County Work Program.

Sheriff’s in Alcorn and Tishomingo Counties have agreed to house Prentiss County inmates but logistics are still being worked out.
