Video: Princess Theater Could Go Back To Normal Operations

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- A Columbus nightspot may soon be back to running at full capacity again. Representatives from the Princess Theater presented a proposal to the Columbus City Council Tuesday night to revive the venue’s event business.

The new plan would reopen the theater portion of the building for larger events, such as concerts and parties, with a maximum capacity of 400, if alcohol is being served, or 493 if there is no bar.

After a shooting near the theater earlier this year, and complaints from some downtown residents, the city threatened to crackdown on the larger events and shorten the bar’s hours of operations.

The owner reached an agreement with the city, and temporarily closed the theater portion.

The Council tabled the plan until the next meeting.

The council also went into executive session to discuss a personnel matter in the police department.

No action was taken on that matter.
