TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Traffic congestion in north Tupelo may ease in about six weeks with the opening of the first portion of the northern loop road project.

Contractors expect to put the finishing touches on the bridge spanning the Natchez Trace Parkway by early August. That will clear the way for the city to open west Barnes Crossing Rd. between North Gloster St. and Mount Vernon Rd.

The second stretch of road between Mount Vernon Rd. and Highway 78 will likely open in early Fall.
