Video: Radar Request To Slow Down Speeders

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) –  Winona leaders want speeders to slow down coming through town, but they’re going to need the Legislature to help make it happen.

The town is crafting a resolution to request permission from lawmakers for Winona Police to run radar on Highway 51.

Radar would run within a mile of  Winona Christian, Winona Elementary, and Winona High School.

Alderman and Vice Mayor David Ware and Representative Karl Oliver want the resolution.

“I see it every morning. I come through here around 6 o’clock, and I see kids walking up and down the street getting to school, and I mean this morning it was dark, and there was kids. They fly up and down here, especially the big trucks, log trucks. I’ve seen them come close, running through the light if it’s yellow, they’ll just keep going, and we have no control over it,” says Ware.

Aldermen are scheduled to vote Tuesday night on the city attorney’s proposal.

It will then be sent to Representative Oliver to present it in Jackson.
