VIDEO: Rebuilding Houlka School After Fire Could Be Reality Soon

CHICKASAW CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A crucial day looms Tuesday for the Chickasaw County school district.

The morning starts with a Jackson meeting of the Chickasaw Consolidation Commission.

The local members will be meeting with state lawmakers to talk about the progress of the state mandated joining of the administrative offices of Okolona, Chickasaw, and the Houston school districts.

The biggest item on the table takes place Tuesday night, where after two years, the Chickasaw County school board appears to be ready to hire a contractor to rebuild the Houlka School.

That building was lost to a fire over two years ago but insurance questions, planning, and making sure long term goals would be met led to the delay in awarding bonds.

The good news is that bids opened last week fall within the budget the district has set for the building project.
