WEST POINT, MISS. (WCBI) – Two people are behind bars after a West Point man is killed in his front yard.

Police Chief Tim Brinkley says 48 year old David Ryals was found unresponsive at the home he shared with his mother at 93 Dix Street.

Police were called to the home Sunday morning, after someone called 9-1-1 saying there was a fight before hanging up.

They found Ryals, on the living room floor. His mother says a fight happened outside, in the front yard and she believes her son was struck in the head with a large tree limb.

Ryals was taken to NMMC where he was pronounced dead.

Twenty five year old Nicholas Phyfer and 22 year old Kaylee Rhea are being held in connection with Ryals’ death.

A close friend of Ryals says he never met a stranger and was a great auto mechanic .

“He could fix anything. Anything at all. He was a genius when it came to any motor at all or anything. He was…..a good guy. He’ll give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He’d do anything to help anybody,” said Sheryl Fair, a relative of Ryals.

Chief Brinkley says he is still trying to figure out what caused the fight. Clay County jail records show Phyfer and Rhea are being held with out bond.

Phyfer’s record says he’s only charged with trespassing. Rhea’s shows she ‘s in jail on murder charges.
