VIDEO: Revolutionary War Soldier Grave Marked in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Starkville chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution uses this veterans day weekend to honor a patriot.

Captain William Hillhouse died in 1848.

He was buried in Starkville’s Oddfellows Cemetery.

Hillhouse is the only known Revoluntionary patriot buried in Starkville.

On Sunday, Starkville’s chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution placed a marker on his grave.

Now, decendents of Hillhouse will be able to join DAR.

DAR member Hellen Polk says one of the responsibilities of the DAR is locating and marking patriot graves around the country.

This honors someone who felt so strongly for the cause of American freedom and for the establishment of our country. Over the years DAR has made it a priority to recognize all the services of our veterans and active military members, as well as supporting our ancestors and our genealogy,” said Polk.

The Starkville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolutionary has more that one hundred members.
