COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The first step in a five-year, 25 million plan to extend the Columbus Riverwalk and build a riverbank amphitheater have cleared a hurdle.
The city council approved engineering contracts to develop a master plan and start design for the 14-mile extension and 2,000 seat amphitheater at its meeting on Tuesday night.
The first steps are being paid for with $2.5 million in legislative earmarks. That will start construction on the amphitheater and help leverage more money from the state transportation department.
It also will start the 18-month review by the Corps of Engineers on the first legs of the 14-miles Riverwalk extension to Columbus Air Force Base.
