VIDEO: Rolling Out One Million Toyota Corollas

BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. (WCBI)- After recently celebrating 10 years of being in the Magnolia state, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company reaches another milestone.

The roar behind the engine of a red four door car was cause for a big celebration in Blue Springs. The Toyota Corolla marks the one millionth one to roll off the assembly line at the company.

“This just doesn’t happen by accident,” said Sean Suggs, president of Toyota Mississippi. “There’s two thousand parts that go into every vehicle that we make and to see one million come off in six years of production, it’s phenomenal.”

“When we first started there was nothing here but concrete, and now to see it where we have reached the one millionth milestone, it’s a great achievement for Toyota and it’s a great achievement for Toyota Mississippi,” said Omar Jones, TMR/HR specialist at the manufacturing company.

Jones has been working at the plant for six years now and said he takes pride in this milestone.

He’s witnessed the dedication and effort that it’s took to get to this point.

“We’re building the number one top selling corolla, top selling vehicle in the country, and also we’re building it safe,” Jones expressed. “Team members are taking a lot of time and hard work and effort into putting this work in everyday.”

“At the end of the day our mantra here is one team,” Suggs expressed. “Team work makes the dream work. We’ve realized that the only way we’re going to get this thing done is we have to have team spirit.”

The manufacturing company built it’s very first corolla in 2011.

On average, they make roughly 700 of them per day and roughly 170 thousand a year.

“Every 94 seconds there’s a vehicle that goes out the back door, every 94 seconds, but it takes about a full day to get through our whole process from the stamp panel, to the shipping door, so it takes about 24 hours to get a vehicle out, but once that happens, every 94 seconds there’s a corolla going out,” Suggs explained.

This remarkable milestone caps off what team members call a historic decade for the manufacturing company.

Even with one million corollas already driving off of the assembly line, team members are confident there’s one million more on the way.
