Video: Salvation Army’s Food Pantry Facing Critical Shortage

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A ministry that helps low income people with basic needs is running low on supplies of non perishable food items.

The Tupelo Salvation Army’s supply of canned goods and other items in its food pantry is running low.

Clients are given food, and other essential items, based on family size.   Typically, the food pantry is well stocked, but ministry officials say summertime always creates more of a demand.

“People don’t stop and think about Salvation Army needing food except Thanksgiving and Christmas, our demand is up because the kids, they are out of school, they are not getting their free lunch meal, and breakfast so they’re eating three meals a day so mom’s food is not stretching that far,” said Susan Gilbert.

Gilbert says canned vegetables, such as corn, green beans, and items such as rice and peanut butter are needed.  Donations can be taken to the Carnation Street location.
