VIDEO: Several Agencies Involved In Deadly House Fire Investigation

WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI) – A house fire on Thanksgiving ends tragically for one family after fire crews find a deceased man in one of the bedrooms.

Clay County Coroner, Alvin Carter identified 62 year old, William Brownlee, Sr. as the man crews pulled out of the home in the 100 Block of Washington Street in West Point.

Cell phone video shows how quickly firefighters arrived and tried to extinguish the flames.

“We responded to a fire. We had a report. On arrival, a man was inside the house. Guys went in and did a knock down and located the victim inside the house. He was deceased. At that point, we finished extinguishing the fire, contacted the medical examiner and the police department. We’ve contacted the state fire marshal also for assistance because it is a fire death,” said Fire Chief Ken Wilbourne.

Wilbourne believes the blaze began in the room where the victim was found.

With the investigation just beginning, Police Chief Avery Cook says investigators aren’t ruling out any potential causes for what sparked the deadly fire.

“We came in to assist the fire department. The thing we want to do is try to help them rule out foul play on the scene. So right now that’s our role. We are working with them and the state fire marshal. Depending on their findings we will take up the investigation if foul play does come into play,” said Cook.

Chief Wilbourne says the body is being sent in for an autopsy.
