Tupelo, MS (WCBI) — The mother of slain Tupelo police Sergeant Gale Stauffer speaks out and thanks the entire community for their show of support during the past few days. Debbie Brangenberg, who is known to many in the area as executive director of downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, is the mother of Sergeant Stauffer. She spoke with local media this evening after the candlelight vigil about her son and how the community has rallied around the family.

“It’s Christmas Day and the lights from the candlelight vigil that gives us light and hope for the future and hopefully peace in our world,” said Brangenberg. “Everybody has been so wonderful to us through this week, and the overwhelming outpouring of love and support that this community has given us has helped us make it through.”

Brangenberg also encouraged everyone to pray for Officer Joseph Mahr,  who was injured during Monday’s shootout.    Tomorrow on WCBI,  Alyssa Martin will have more with Brangenberg
