STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Shoppers beware… Stores want you to save your costumes for trick or treating.

Police say Halloween can be an ideal time for someone to use a costume to commit a crime without being recognized. Now, many stores are asking people to customers to remove masks and anything that might cover their face before entering.

Some are even denying service, and police say it’s a smart move.

“Just opportunity, believe it or not, everybody’s not honest, so on a night like Halloween when everybody is out walking, that’s an opportune time for those who are dishonest to go out and try to commit a crime.”

Starkville police plan to have extra officers patrolling the streets on Halloween night.
