VIDEO: Spooking The Community For A Good Cause

VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) – Some Alabama high school students are working to give the community a spook while also planning for the future.

Vernon freshmen are getting the ball rolling early for their senior trip.

These high school freshmen are putting the final touches on their haunted house.. They’re hoping to exchange frights for cash.

“We’re doing a fund raiser for our class of 2021 so we can go on a class trip when we get older,”said Vernon freshmen Ariel Blair.

Blair says if that’s going to happen they have to start now.

“If you start early you have a better chance of doing something more important and something that we can’t do all the time and we can have more advantages of doing something that we want to do,”said Blair.

Last year parents of the 2021 class started the 2021 committee. Volunteer Philip Slone say they wanted to ensure all students had an opportunity to celebrate completing high school.

“Nearly every parent involved has turned out and the students have turned out. We’ve had great participation on both sides there and it’s really turned into great group project and turned out really well,” said Slone.

To get credit toward the trip students must sign in and log their time. Slone says the haunted house isn’t the only opportunity the students have to make a buck.

“This is just one of the things we do throughout the year. We also do some car washes this year we are going to sell poinsettias that is for our Christmas season you know little things an hopefully all the funds will be generated through the projects that we have,”said Slone.

The committee is hoping the idea of raising funds early will catch on.

“We look to continue it at least till the graduation of this class and who knows maybe some other classes will pick up and continue it from there and it kind of be a tradition,”said Slone.

“We really put a lot of work into it and I just hope everybody comes out and supports us,”said Blair.

At the end of the classes junior year the committee will present the students with three option and the students will narrow it down from there.
