VIDEO: Spotting The Signs Of West Nile

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)—July through September is the peak of West Nile virus according to the health department, and doctors are warning us of the signs and symptoms.

The CDC says that in 20 percent of most West Nile infections, people develop a mild fever, nausea and headaches.
Those symptoms could last up to a week.
However, doctors say that most of the time, patients never see symptoms and that their body fights off the infection.

“Most people that acquire West Nile have no symptoms whatsoever. Probably 2 to 3/4  of patients acquire the infection.  If it is a health immune system, it takes care of the infection. People who do have some symptoms tend to have flu like illness,”said Baptist Golden Triangle  ER Doctor Joel Butler.

So far 31 cases of West Nile have been reported in the state of Mississippi.  For a complete list of symptoms you can visit the health departments website at msdh.ms.gov
