COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Lawmakers will be chipping in on an extension of the Columbus Riverwalk, but not near the amount some had hoped

Plans call for a 14 mile extension from downtown to the Columbus Lock and Dam and on to Columbus Air Force Base.

The proposal also has rest stops and playgrounds along the way.

$1.1 million was approved by lawmakers in this year’s bond bill.

That’s not close to the $5 million a year Representative Jeff Smith had hoped for when the announcement was made last year.

Organizers see it as a way to help show community support with the base.

Federal funds are also being sought.
