Video: Steve Harvey Pays New Golf Course A Visit

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)- A 7,500 yard, par-72 golf course, a five-green driving range, short-game training areas and a 16,000 square foot putting green in the shape of Mississippi ….

It’s what you can expect to see at the Mossy Oak Golf Club.

The George Bryan Family are the original founders of the Old Waverly Golf Club and have been dreaming to build a new course.

“In 1983 I think my father was, I remember riding around with him in a Buick and we would go by old golf holes and pastures and he would say that would be a great golf hole.”said Wilkes Bryan.

Bryan’s father is excited about the green these greens could bring to the area.

“You know we’ve tried to bring golf to this area. We’re very involved in the economic development and we feel like this is an economic development project. We will employ around 150-160 people out here at the two clubs so we feel very strongly about that, we’re trying to help the area bring in more industry and bring in more and better jobs for everybody.”said George Bryan.

They knew Mississippi State should be a part of the new venture, from teeing off to the back nine.

“If we’re going to build this new golf course we need to some way incorporate you know a learning and a teaching environment for the players to have for Mississippi State to go.”said Bryan.

The potential for hosting big events was a big factor.

“Also have tournaments here where Mississippi State can have Ole Miss and Southern Miss and other schools around the SEC come here and we can actually showcase something here in Mississippi for the SEC.”said Bryan.

The course will soon host big time athletes, and one if its founders is already giving the course a celebrity status.

“George Bryan just changed my whole mind about Mississippi. And I’ve found just a lot of great people down here and a lot of great things to do and golf is one of them from Old Waverly to now this incredible golf course, Mossy Oaks.”said Steve Harvey.

Harvey says he’s fallen in love with the Hospitality State.

“I came down here and I met some really, really great people that really got me to loving to come down here and I prolly come down here to these golf courses more than any other.” said Harvey.
