VIDEO: Some Still Work On Labor Day

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Not everyone will spend the day in front of a grill for Labor Day, preparing a family-style barbecued meal.

Some people had to go to work today.

According to a Bloomberg study, 41% of employers in the United States will have some staff working on Labor Day.

At Food Giant in Columbus, many people spent their Labor Day working or grocery shopping.

Workers say it’s not all that bad — working on holidays, you get to meet new people who travel to the area.

“Labor Day has been pretty good,” Johnny Wells tells WCBI. “I come in at around 8:00, throw some boxes around… It’s a good thing.”

Bobbie Reese says, “I hear people say ‘Oh, it’s just another day,’ but you really have an opportunity to sell your product to people who don’t come in on a regular basis, so I don’t mind working holidays, and if I had to give advice, I would say ‘think positive.'”

41% of workers didn’t take a single vacation last year, and some say the internet, email, and cell phones have even increased the amount of time they spend working.
