Student Athlete of the Week – Brooks Shannon

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) – “Just take them to the top. That’s what we’re really trying to get to,” says North Pontotoc High School receiver and cornerback Brooks Shannon.

The North Pontotoc High School Vikings are headed to the top. They’re 9-1 after dominating their opponents all season. Shannon plays a major role in the team’s success. Head Coach Brien Sutton says Shannon is a well-rounded athlete.

“He’s just one of those exceptional athletes. Of course he plays football, he plays basketball. He’s a multi-sport guy,” says Sutton.

Shannon says the support of his family keeps him on track in class and on the field.

“My mom, they’re very supportive. They’re here every game. They talk to me everyday about keeping my attitude right and just staying focused. College, they want me to go to college,” says Shannon.

Coach Sutton believes Shannon’s skills can take him as far as he’d like to go as a college football player.

“We’ve had Southern Miss talking to him. They’re really interested in him. Of course, all of our junior colleges around the area have talked to him. I think he’s got a future. It depends on what he decides to do and where he decides to go,” says Sutton.

The North Pontotoc Vikings will play Mooreville Thursday, Oct. 30 at home.
