Video: Student Athlete of the Week: Kymbotric Mason, Noxubee County HS, Football

MACON, Miss. (WCBI) — The Noxubee County Tigers have arguably one of the toughest schedules in the state. While they don’t have as many wins this year as in the past, there’s a standout wide receiver who believes the team can make another state title run.

Noxubee County Tiger opponents are used to seeing Kymbotric Mason catch touchdowns. In fact, he caught two in last year’s state title game against St. Stanislaus. The senior wide receiver and Mississippi State commit believes the Tigers can make another run for a gold football.

“The tradition that Noxubee has, like we work hard everyday. Every single day we are in the weight room, and then carry over to the field, and go hard at practice everyday, and it carries over to the game on Friday,” says athlete Kymbotric Mason.

From running routes to lifting extra weights, coaches see how Mason motivates his teammates.

“Kymbotric is a great football player. He’s been a great teammate, and the last two state championships he’s been a big part of it, and those games he really shows up. He shows up on the big stage, and I call him prime time because he shows up in the big games, but Kymbotric means a lot us as a program,” says head coach Tyrone Shorter.

“He’s a team leader. A very good one. He leads when we are in devotion every Wednesday and every Friday before pregame meal. He’s been doing pretty good this year,”says teammate Kalmorris Robinson.

Noxubee will have a familiar foe on Thursday night. Former head coach M.C. Miller and his Wildcats hosts the Tigers in the Toothpick Bowl. Louisville hasn’t won the rivalry since 2013. It’s the last time Mason will face the Winston County team and he wants to keep the winning streak going.

“Louisville, they have been a rivalry for a long time. I know since I’ve been here, every time I’ve played Louisville we go to Louisville week. It’s been very hype, like from the fans, to the teams, to the coaches and all that,” Mason says.

It’s also a special game for the coaches.

“Going against Coach Miller again you know a great friend of mine. I’ve been knowing for nineteen years. He brought me to this. It’s going to be fun. I expect Louisville ready to be up to play this game,” Shorter says.
