STUDENT ATHLETES OF THE WEEK – Undefeated Calhoun City High School Football team.

“After last year, we were kind of heart broken at the end of the year,” says Team Co-Captain, Steele Liles.

The Calhoun City High School Wildcats have made some adjustments since last year and now they’re on a roll.

“We’re undefeated and playing well and doing good in that. We’ve won our region and play in the North half Championship Friday night,” says Head Coach Perry Liles.

Coach Liles says the leaders of the football team are a big reason for this year’s winning season.

“It’s a great opportunity and I’m glad they chose me to be a captain. I just step up to the plate and be a leader. We just came together and we have great leaders on the team. That’s why we have so much success,” says Quarterback and Co-Captain, Chakel Gates.

As the Wildcats get ready for their biggest game of the year, they’re also looking towards the future.

“I want to be a coach. Coach young kids and inspire them to be the best they can be,” says Gates.

“Well I like to play football a lot. I play baseball and I power lift also. I play guitar for my church on Wednesday nights. When I go to college I plan on going to the medical field and being a doctor,” says Liles.

Coach Liles says the team also averages a 3.0 gpa collectively.

The Wildcats will take on East Webster this Friday at 7pm. These are your Student Athletes of the Week for WCBI Sports.
