MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI News)- The new extension to the Mitchell Memorial Library at Mississippi State is about to be filled very quickly.

A single donation of thousands of books and civil war memorabilia from Portland will arrive tomorrow at the new Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library.

Two segments in the new gallery will feature the two American presidents, Grant and Abraham Lincoln.

This collection, which is being called the Lincoln collection, will make Mississippi State a go-to university for Civil War research.

Library staff members have taken many steps to make sure these items arrive safely.

“We’ve actually been working on this for several months, now, trying to be prepared for taking this into our collection. A lot of work does go into preparing for receiving the collection, but a lot of work will go into processing the collection once it’s actually here,” said Library Associate Dean, Stephen Cunetto.

When the collection arrives, staff members will put their efforts to cataloging and digitizing these items.
