VIDEO: A Tornado Rips Through Itawamba County And Leaves Behind Massive Damage

Itawamba County, Miss. (WCBI)- The remnants of Hurricane Harvey is being felt in North Mississippi.

On Thursday, a tornado touched down in Kirkville. The strong winds damaged homes and businesses, toppled trees and left debris scattered everywhere.

“When we first saw it, I mean, it took a few minutes to register what we just went through and what happened, but it’s been very emotional,” said Cory Lindsey, who witnessed the tornado as it was touching down.

Lindsey said the storm was truly terrifying. The tornado not only  damaged his community, but it also destroyed his business, L&L Screen Printing, LLC.

“Everything we worked hard for these past seven years was gone in about 30 seconds,” he expressed.

Lindsey said seven people were inside the shop getting ready to leave and go home right as the tornado was about to touch down.

“We was all trying to get everything gathered up to get out, and I just happened to walk outside  and looked back behind the shop and it was right there, I saw it coming,” he recalled.

He quickly ran back inside and told everyone to take cover

“I had my 7-month-old daughter and we had a six year old little girl in there with us too, my step daughter Juliet, and my main concern was their safety,” Lindsey explained.

“We came in here in this bathroom and this is where I came in with my two daughters and I had ahold of them, and my 7-month-old was crying,” said Kristina Lindsey, who was also inside the shop as the tornado was touching down. “Cory and his mama and his other two employees, we all came in here in this bathroom and shut the door and within just a few seconds, we heard all of the rumbling and all of the noise of the tornado, and we come out to this.”

Although the storm came and destroyed everything in its path, there were no injuries reported, and for Lindsey, that’s enough to be thankful for.

“Everything that you see here can be replaced, you can’t replace people,” said Lindsey.

Even though the storm damaged his business, Lindsey said he has has plans to rebuild his shop as quickly as he can.
