Video: The University Of Mississippi Officially Welcomes It’s New Chancellor

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI)-He took over almost a year ago, but the University of Mississippi officially welcomed its newest chancellor.

There was an investiture ceremony held for Jeffrey Vitter at Ole Miss on Thursday afternoon.  Vitter was selected as the university’s chancellor back in Janurary.

He now becomes the 17th chancellor at Ole Miss.

He was most recently a provost and vice chancellor at Kansas University.

The new chancellor said he’s thrilled to have this opportunity.

“I chose to be an academic leader because I am passionate about the power if higher education,” said Vitter. “There is nothing more important to the future of our society than higher education.”

One familiar face that was in attendance for the investiture ceremony was Vitter’s good friend and actor, Morgan Freeman.
