Video: USMC Veteran Continues Week Long Mall ‘Campout’ As Part Of Fundraiser For Disabled Vets

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A US Marine Veteran, who had part of his left leg amputated due to a service related injury, continues his campout in the Mall at Barnes Crossing for disabled vets.

Scott Burns is in day six of his annual fundraising event called “7 Days for the Troops.”  He is spending the entire week in the food court at the Mall at Barnes Crossing in Tupelo.

He is collecting donations for a non profit called “Purple Heart Homes.”  They renovate homes and make them handicapped accessible for disabled veterans.

A free songwriters concert will take place as part of the fundraiser.

“They’ve all written songs that have a patriotic theme, and they’re all going to perform at least two songs tonight, everyone will have a patriotic feel, we will record that, live in the food court and we will make that CD available for people who want to purchase it and all proceeds from that CD will go to Purple Heart Homes,” Burns said.

There are many items that will be raffled off, including furniture, Glock pistols and two AR 15s.   Burns will be in the food court until 9 Saturday evening.
