WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s official. The City of West Point welcomes it’s new top cop to office Tuesday, October 3.
In an early morning ceremony, Chief Avery Cook was sworn in as the new Police Chief.
Cook’s been in law enforcement for 18 years and is no stranger to the West Point police Department. He served as the assistant Police Chief till 2013.
Cook says it will be great getting to return to his old stomping ground with the love and support of the residents.
“I had a lot of support come out from the community and from the board members that showed me a lot of support. That’s a good thing, when you’re in a position like this to have support from your board members and your community. I look forward to working with both the board and community,” says Cook.
After the ceremony Cook immediately began work under his official title.
