VIDEO: Winston County Courthouse Adds Some History
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Winston County makes history Saturday morning.
The original 1888 cornerstone from the Winston County court house and a unique window transom, is being put on permanent display.
In a special unvailing ceremony directly following the Veterans Day parade, the community learned about the history of the former courthouse.
The ceremony featured all members of the Winston County Judiciary as well as a retired Mississippi Supreme Count Justice.
Former Senator Giles Ward says this is a great opportunity for the residents to find out just how rich Winston County history really is.
“Here in the lobby of the courthouse is the ideal place for it. It’s where people come to get marriage license. Death certificates are issued here all of our taxes are paid here then you have matters here of the circuit court the chancery court or the justice court system this is where you come. We were fortunate,” said Giles.
During the Ceremony the Winston County Judiciary read the original cornerstone dedication speech from the 18 hundreds.
